The 1975 Sturgeon Bay girls Little League team that advanced to the Little League Tournament of Champions in Williamsport, PA — will have a 50 year reunion in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday. Jody (Zahn) Wheat was part of that team and she says the bond that team formed is still strong today…
Wheat has great stories of the qualifying rounds of the tournament, winning district followed by the Wisconsin-Minnesota tournament, Divisional tourney in Iowa and Regional in Indiana. Travel at the time was a big deal….and there were no hotel stays as they were housed by host families…
The team is planning to meet at the girls Little League fields at 3:00 on Saturday and continue with a fish boil as they celebrate the accomplishments 50 years after the fact….and Jody says the full 14 player roster will be in town…
For the record, the team lost their 2 games, including a record 13 inning game according to Wheat and the team from Medford, Oregon won the title.
