Algoma saw a 15 point second half lead get trimmed to just one but held off a furious comeback by Weyauwega-Fremont and beat the Warhawks, 67-59, in a Division 4 regional opener on Tuesday. The Wolves (18-5) had a 44-29 advantage early in the second half but W-F had closed to within 58-57 with about 4:00 minutes to play. Cody Kirchman drove to the hoop for a basket that started a 9-2 burst for Algoma as the put the game away at the foul line shooting 12 of 13 in the second half. Parker Lischka scored 25 to lead the Wolves and Charlie Prokash added 11, all in the first half. Ethan Koplien had 16 and Jackson Hutchison 14 for Weyauwega-Fremont (8-17). It’s Algoma’s first tournament win since 2018 when they beat Reedsville.
