West Jacksonport scored a run in the top of the ninth for a 5-4 win at Institute Friday night. West Jacksonport (11-3) was down three after the third but scored twice in the fifth and once in the eighth. Woody Schartner’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth scored Derek Flok with the eventual winning run. With the win, West Jacksonport assures themselves of at least a second place finish in the Door County League.
Mike Stoneman had two hits and Eric Bley added a two-run triple for West Jacksonport. Woody Schartner went the distance for the win. He struck out 19. Institute (5-8) was led by Cody Giesseman who had two hits. Kyle Volkman pitched all nine innings and took the loss.
Saturday, August 17th
Maplewood beat Institute 7 -4 Saturday. Chad LaLazurne earned the win for the Mets while Josh Paul took the loss for the Cubs. Maplewood jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after three innings and held off Institute for the win. John Price hit a two-run homer in the Mets third. Maplewood was led by Adam Schubert with three hits and two RBI. Jason Shimon and Cliff Goodacre each added two hits. Cody Giesseman had two hits to lead Institute.
