Vikings, Storm Win Level 1 Thrillers

Gibraltar won their first ever WIAA playoff football game as they opened the 8-player postseason with a 30-28 win in Suring on Friday Night. The Vikings (8-2) led 16-0 in the second quarter as Luke Steebs threw touchdown passes to Brandon Stillman and Alex Laughlin. Gibraltar pushed their 16-8 halftime lead to a 22-8 advantage on a Steebs to Laughlin 64 yard TD pass in the first minute of the second half. The Eagles (8-2) worked their way back into the game on a pair of Logan Stuart TD runs but a failed two point attempt had Gibraltar in front, 22-20, with 8:49 to play. Gibraltar made it 30-20 on a halfback option pass from Laughlin to Sam Lindenberg with 3:29 to play but Suring answered with another Stuart touchdown to make it 30-28 with 2:26 to play. Suring drove to the Gibraltar 8 yard line in the final possession, but after a pair of penalties on the Eagles, the game came to an end on a Conner Duffy sack of quarterback Jayden Genniesse as time expired.
