Two Area Teams Fall In Sectional Semifinals

The Gibraltar-Washington Island baseball team lost to Pacelli in a Division 4 sectional semifinal Tuesday at Rosholt, 7-1. The Vikings (18-10) fell behind early as the Cardinal scored once in the first and twice in the second. Brady Kita scored on a wild pitch in the fifth but Pacelli’s Asher Jordan hit a three-run home run in the sixth and the Cardinals scored their final run in the seventh. Kita and Aaron Brey each had two hits as the Vikings had five total and stranded ten runners. The game also featured a weather delay of more than 90 minutes.

The Algoma baseball team lost to Saint Mary Catholic in a Division 3 sectional semifinal Tuesday at Gillett, 7-3. Both teams scored all of their runs in the 5th inning. The Zephyrs sent 11 batters to the plate in the 5th, Colin Nigl had a 2 run double & Jacob Ernsting had a 2 run single. Algoma was led by Jack Cole with a pair of hits. Fisher Mackenzie went the distance for Saint Mary Catholic, he struck out 7 & gave up just 5 hits. Algoma left 7 runners on base. It is the second time this season that SMC has beaten the Wolves (15-9).
