Sturgeon Bay Edges Denmark

The Sturgeon Bay American Legion baseball team slipped by Denmark Wednesday night, 2-1.  With the game tied at 1-1, Casey Giesseman led off the top of the seventh with a walk.  He advanced to third on an error on a bunt by Michael Larsen.  Denmark brought in Corey Fischer, who promptly recorded a strikeout.  However, a passed ball on the next at bat allowed Giesseman to scored the go ahead and eventual game-winning run.  Sturgeon Bay scored their other run in the first as Riley Schartner led off with a single and scored on a base hit by Jason Lindemann.

Riley Cordier went the first five for the Bays.  He allowed one run on three hits while striking out eight.  Riley Schartner relieved Cordier and pitched the final two innings.  He gave up one hit while striking out four.  Schartner picked up the win.

Sturgeon Bay is 5-2 in the East Division of the Fox River Valley League.  They are 8-5 overall.  Sturgeon Bay is off until Tuesday when they head to the Metrodome for a doubleheader with Viroqua.  (There is still room on the bus for anyone interested in making the trip.  Cost is 30 dollars per person.  If interested call George Husby at (920) 493-2077.

Late score from Tuesday night:
Northern Door beat Denmark, 8-4.  Nick Kita went the distance for the win.  He gave up four runs, two earned, on five hits.  Kita and Jack Brennan both went 2-for-4.
