Sturgeon Bay beat Oconto 5-1 in a Packerland Conference baseball game on Monday in Oconto. Down 1-0 in the 6th inning, the Clippers tied the game on a two out RBI single from Austin Lardinois that scored Matt Van Bramer. After a Justin Krause walk to load the bases, Joey Sheehy launched a grand slam over the 300 foot sign down the left field line to give Sturgeon Bay the final margin of victory. Riley Cordier struck out 7 in three innings of relief of Lucas Stephenson to pick up the win. Brandon Bahde had an RBI single to score Bryce Bostedt for the Blue Devils. Sturgeon Bay, Oconto and Southern Door are tied with 2 losses in conference play.
The game was played through a steady rain for over an hour, and was called in the bottom of the 7th inning. Oconto started the inning with four walks to make it 5-2. After the umpires checked the condition of the mound, play was allowed to continue. The next batter was hit by a pitch making the score 5-3 with the bases loaded and nobody out. Shortly after, the umpires ruled the game was over and Rule 4-2-3 of the National Federation of High Schools says “a game ended before the teams have had a equal number of completed turns at bat shall have the score at the end of the last completed inning.”
