Pioneers win showdown with Oconto

The Sevastopol girls basketball team beat Oconto, 49-39, and remain tied with Kewaunee at the top of the Packerland Conference standings heading into the regular season finale on Thursday. The Pioneers were trailing 14-8 early, but took the lead for good with 9:40 to play in the first half thanks to an 18-0 run, which included three three-pointers out the left corner from Libby Ash. The Blue Devils closed to within 39-36 with 2:49 to play, but following a timeout, the Pioneers broke the Oconto press which led to a Sienna Cain layup followed by Naomi Rikkola (18 points) with 8 straight free throws. Kayla Ranly added 10 points for Sevastopol and Addisyn Viestenz led Oconto with 18 points.
