Northern Door’s Run Of Trips To State Ends At Five

Northern Door was eliminated from the single A American Legion baseball regional at Denmark Saturday, losing to Freedom, 3-2.  The loss ends Northern Door’s streak of five consecutive trips to the single A American Legion State Tournament.

Leading 2-1, Freedom scored once in the top of the seventh and that run would prove to be the game winner.  Matt Hecht walked and scored on Cam Zak’s two-out single in the bottom half of the seventh.  However, that’s where the Chiefs’ rally would come to an end.

Tanner Biwer took the loss as he went the distance for Northern Door.  He allowed three runs on twelve hits.  Biwer struck out nine while walking one.  Drew Tanck and Cody Giesseman (run) both doubled and Hecht (run, RBI), Zak (RBI) and Cawley Hubner all added singles.

Freedom’s Jacob Gonnering picked up the win.  After pitching just four innings this summer, Gonnering went the first six and a third.  He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking two.  Scott Ebben got the final two outs for the save.  Tyler Behle (double, run) had three hits for Freedom while Ben Lamers (run, RBI) doubled and tripled and Ebben had two hits and drove in two runs.
