Sturgeon Bay punched their ticket to the Class “AA” American Legion Baseball State Tournament when they beat Oconto Falls 3-2 on Monday at Memorial Field. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Casey Giesseman lined a two out single to left centerfield that scored Jason Lindemann. Lucas Stephenson had an infield single to lead off the 7th inning and scored the winning run on an Oconto Falls throwing error. Riley Schartner pitched a perfect 7th inning for the win and had two hits while David Van Dreese had an RBI single. Tyler Magnin and John Thompson had RBI singles for Oconto Falls. It’s the second straight trip to State for the Bays.
Regional Final
Kewaunee County beat Sturgeon Bay 5-2 for the Regional Championship. Logan Brusky allowed only three hits in a complete game victory. The Lakers scored twice in the first inning when Sam Koss lined a base hit to rightfield that scored Blake Ravet and Caleb Willems. Koss finished with 2 hits and 3 RBI’s while Willems scored three runs and Ty Dorner was on base three times. Riley Scharter singled and doubled while Jason Lindemann had an RBI double and scored a run. It’s the 2nd regional title in the last 3 years for Kewaunee County. The State Tournament, hosted by Kewaunee County, begins on Friday at the Luxemburg-Casco Sports Complex.
