Kolberg Remains Unbeaten

Kolberg still sits atop the Door County League as they beat Institute yesterday, 16-6.  Trailing 2-1 after the first inning, the Braves (4-0) took the lead for good on Kurt Ray’s three-run homer in the second.  Institute (1-4) cut their deficit to two, but Kolberg tacked on insurance runs in the final few innings.  Eric Lardinois had four hits to lead Kolberg.  Jeff Sperber, Bob Tenor and Derek Ray all added two.  Adam Bretl (1-0) went the first five innings for the win with Austin Rohe pitching the final four for the save.  Kyle Volkman (1-4) took the loss for the Cubs.  Cody Giesseman went 5-for-5 for Institute, while Volkman and Kirk Wilke each had two hits.

Sister Bay slipped by Baileys Harbor, 1-0.  Tom Sawyer walked in the first inning.  He then stole second and third and scored the game’s lone run on  a sac fly from Stuart Larsen.  It is the first 1-0 game in the Door County League since August of 2010.  Sawyer led Sister Bay (3-2) by collecting two of their three hits.  Wil Henriksen (2-2) tossed the complete game, four-hit shutout.  Baileys Harbor (0-4) threatened in both the seventh and eighth innings but could not come up with the key hit.  Brett Anschutz (0-4) pitched well but took the loss.

Egg Harbor crushed Washington Island, 14-2.  Brian Crook hit a first inning grand slam for Egg Harbor (4-1) who remains in second place in the league standings.  Crook finished with three hits and drove in seven runs.  Riley Spetz had three hits for the Indians.  Dave Jilot (2-1) pitched the first six innings for the win as four Egg Harbor pitchers limited Washington Island (3-2) to just three hits.  Mark Woerfel (0-1) went the first three for the Islanders and took the loss.

West Jacksonport held off Maplewood, 12-9.  The Ports (3-2) had a seven run lead heading to the bottom of the ninth.  The Mets (1-4) scored four times in their last at bat and had the tying run at the plate, but Ryan Tanck recorded a strike out to end the game.  Woody Schartner had four hits and drove in four for West Jacksonport.  Schartner (2-1) also pitched the first seven for the win.  Ryan Tanck, who picked up the save, had two hits as did Drew Tanck and Mike Stoneman.  Steve Jilot hit a three-run homer in the first.
