Cubs Beat A’s, Bays Knock off Braves

Institute beat Baileys Harbor Friday night, 5-4.  Cody Giesseman led off the bottom of the tenth with a double and scored the game winning run on Kirk Schleicher’s single.  Institute scored three times in the first, but Baileys Harbor rallied and tied the game at four in the top of the seventh.  The contest would remain that way until the Cubs pushed across the game winning run in extra innings.

Josh Paul picked up the win, relieving Kyle Volkman in the sixth inning.  Volkman had three hits to lead Institute while Giesseman and Schleicher each added two.  The Cubs are now 5 and 7 and have kept their slim playoff hopes alive.

Sam Ausloos went the distance for Baileys Harbor and took the loss.  Sawyer Johnson had two hits to lead Baileys Harbor, who drops to 1 and 12.

Saturday in the Door County League:
Sister Bay beat Kolberg 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Kolberg. The Bays jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Stuart Larsen homerun & never looked back. The Bays would add 2 more runs in the 5th & one run in the 9th, Kolberg’s lone run came in the 7th inning. Sister Bay was led by Larsen with 3 hits & 2RBI & Dusty Johnson with 2 hits. Will Henriksen went the distance for the win striking out 7, Austin Rohe took the loss, he was releived by Jeff Sperber after 5. Kolberg left 12 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded to end the game. With the win, Sister Bay(8-4) has a firm hold on 3rd place & remains in striking distance of second as the playoffs approach. Kolberg(7-5) dropped to 4th place after the loss.
