Valders beat top seeded Southern Door, 58-52, in a WIAA Division 3 regional final in Brussels on Saturday. The Eagles (19-5) hit seven three pointers in the first half and led 33-29 at the break and scored the first two baskets of the second half for a 37-29 lead. But the Vikings (13-10) stayed in the game with tight man-to-man defense and took their first lead with less than four minutes to play and then made their free throws down the stretch. Trevor Leist scored 22 in the win with Reece Brown adding 13 and Fletcher Dallas 10. Kyle Daoust led Southern Door with 23 points with Derik LeCaptain and Max Pierre adding 10 each. Daoust finishes his career with 1,562 points, second most in school and county history and only four behind Nathan Vogel’s 1,566. LeCaptain ends his career with 1,363 points.

Gibraltar dominated the top two teams in the Northern Lakes Conference, beating Florence on Friday and then league champion Phelps on Saturday, 63-32. Trevor Reinhardt scored 13 points, Evan Henry added 12, Brady Ash 10 and Luke Steebs chipped in 9 points. It’s the first regional championship in school history for Gibraltar.
