The regular season wrapped up for the Door County Baseball League Sunday, and after 14 weeks of play, Sister Bay & Kolberg are tied atop the standings at 12-2. Both teams won on Sunday, forcing a playoff for the league championship next week.
Sister Bay held on to beat West Jacksonport 13-8. The game was tied at 6 going in to the 7th inning when a Tom Sawyer sacrifice fly gave the Bays the lead. Sister Bay would add 3 runs in the 8th and 9th innings to finish off the Ports. Tom Sawyer had 4 hits, Griffen Cole, Sam Forkert, & Spencer Krause all had 3 hits each, & Matt Hecht hit a 2-run homerun in the win. Riley Cordier & Luke Steebs had three hits each for the Ports.
Kolberg jumped out to a 6-0 lead into the 4th inning at Maplewood and never trailed. The Mets chipped away by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th, but couldn’t get any closer than that. Winning pitcher Jake Schneider struck out 9, Tyler Neinas had 3 hits & 2 RBI, Nick LeCaptain had 2 hits & 2 RBI. Kody Kissinger & Tory Jandrin had 2 hits each for Maplewood.
Washington Island beat Institute 12-4. Luke Geiger had 3 hits including a 3-run homerun, Ray McDonald had 3 hits & Matt Petersilka added 2. Zack Christianson had 3 hits for Institute, Frankie Ash, Robbie Pollman, & Nick Peterson all had 2 hits for the Cubs.
On Friday night, Egg Harbor beat Baileys Harbor 15-4. Nick Kita led the way for the Indians with 5 hits & 2 RBI, Eric DeJardine had 4 hits, 4 RBI & a homerun, Brady Kita had 3 hits & 3 RBI, and Anthony Jennerjohn had 3 hits, all for Egg Harbor, who had 20 hits as a team. Bryce Plzak had 2 hits for Baileys Harbor.
Next week there will a playoff for the league title between Sister Bay & Kolberg (at Sister Bay) as well as a playoff to determine the 4th & final spot for the playoffs when Washington Island plays at Egg Harbor.
