Clippers Survive WLA, Spartans Slip Past NDA

Sturgeon Bay beat Winnebago Lutheran Academy on Saturday in Waupun to qualify for the WIAA soccer tournament for the fourth time in the last five years.  The Clippers had a 1-0 lead and appeared head to State only to see WLA tie the game with :06 seconds left in the match.  After the two teams were tied after regulation, two 10-minute overtime periods and a round of penalty kicks (4-4), Sturgeon Bay would get the sudden victory on a Brandon Forbes goal followed by Clipper ‘keeper  Caleb Owens denying the Vikings.  Sturgeon Bay will play #1 ranked The Prairie School in a Division 4 State Semi-final at 2:00 on Thursday at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.  Barron will play Saint Thomas More in the other semi-final.

Division 3
Luxemburg-Casco beat Notre Dame 1-0 in Seymour on Saturday.  An Austin Nellis goal assisted by Denny Cristoff at the 7:04 mark of the match was enough for the Spartans.  Keegan Sewell had 4 saves.  L-C will play Mount Horeb at 7:00 Thursday Night in Milwaukee.  Rice Lake and Delevan-Darien complete the Division 3 field.
