The Sturgeon Bay Boys Soccer team won their first ever WIAA State Championship Saturday, beating the University School of Milwaukee, 2-0 to claim the Division 4 title. Robbie Hohlfelder’s goal in the 24th minute gave Sturgeon Bay a 1-0 lead and turned out to be the game winner. Logan Carstens assisted on that score. Alessandro Nora would add an insurance goal, scoring on a header off a corner kick in the 55th minute. Sturgeon Bay (22-3-3) handed top ranked University School (17-2-1) just their second loss of the season. Sturgeon Bay recorded a pair of shutouts at state, with goalie Trent Maas making four saves in the championship match.
Sturgeon Bay Athletic Director Pat Blizel sends information that there will be a welcome back parade and celebration for the state champion Sturgeon Bay Soccer team on Saturday, November 7th. The parade through Sturgeon Bay will begin around 4:30 pm and proceed down Madison Avenue on the Westside of Sturgeon Bay, across the “old downtown bridge,” up Michigan to 4th Avenue to Jefferson to 3rd Avenue and back up Michigan Street to the high school. The celebration at the high school will begin at 5:00 pm.
