The Milwaukee Brewers will open their 2012 season this afternoon when they welcome the Saint Louis Cardinals to Miller Park. This is the third time that the Brewers have opened their season by playing the Cardinals. The Brewers are 2-1 in those games, all three of which were played in Saint Louis.
This will be the Brewers first opening day without Prince Fielder at first base since 2005. Fielder signed a free agent deal with the Detroit Tigers this off-season.
The Brewers had three key signings this off-season. They added third baseman, Aramis Ramirez, shortstop Alex Gonzalez and outfielder Norichika Aoki.
Former Brewers catcher Mike Matheny is in his first season as the Cardinals manager. Matheny replaced Tony LaRussa, who retired during the off-season. Matheny won his first game Wednesday night as Saint Louis won at Miami.
