Algoma’s Season Comes To An End

The Algoma softball team fell to Oakfield in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal Tuesday at Peterson Park, 3-1.  After a single by Andie Vandertie and a double from Kathy Bluett, the Wolves had runners at second and third with no one out in the bottom of the seventh.  However, Oakfield retired the next three hitters to end the game.  Algoma (15-3) didn’t have a hit until Baleigh Delorit crushed a 3-1 pitch to straight away center for a two-out homer in the sixth.  That was one of just three hits on the afternoon for Algoma.  Oakfield (20-2) scored once in the third and added two more runs in the fifth on a two-run single by McKaela Ryan, who picked up the win.  Ryan allowed a run on three hits in seven innings. She struck out eight and walked two.  Jordan Demmin took the loss.  She allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings.  Demmin struck out five and walked one.  Oakfield will host Randolph in a sectional final Thursday at 5 PM.

The Oconto softball team won a Division 3 sectional semifinal at Marathon Tuesday night, 4-3.  The Blue Devils will take on Laconia in the sectional final Thursday at 4:30 PM at Pacelli.
