Algoma needed overtime to beat Saint Mary’s Springs, 42-37, in a WIAA Division 4 State Semi-Final at the Resch Center in Green Bay on Thursday Night. The Wolves used a quick start to open an 11-2 lead that was down to 23-21 at halftime. Springs took their biggest lead, 31-27, in the third quarter but Algoma answered with a pair of Baleigh Delorit 3-pointer’s and tied the game at 37-37 with 5:20 to play in regulation. In overtime, Algoma took a 39-37 lead when Anna Dier put back an offensive rebound with 2:10 to play and Kennedy Blahnik and Meg Ryan free throws accounted for the final score. The Algoma defense held Saint Mary’s Springs scoreless for the final 10:03 of the game. Delorit scored 14 points and Blahnik added 12 for the Wolves (25-2) while Kelli Schrauth had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Ledgers (22-4). Algoma will play Cuba City for the Division 4 State Championship at 12:45 Saturday on 93.9FM / wdor.com
