After fourteen years as chairman of the Door County Board, Leo Zipperer has stepped aside. Zipperer informed his counterparts on the board that he had decided to step aside Tuesday. Long time supervisor & vice-chairman, Dan Austad, was the only nominee for the position & was approved as chairman by a vote of his peers. Austad’s old job went to Sister Bay supervisor David Lienau who was approved on a unanimous vote. Supervisor Ken Fisher was nominated, but withdrew from the vote.
The Door County Board also voted to replace the name of the Olde Stone Quarry County Park in the Town of Sevastopol to George K. Pinney County Park. Pinney was instrumental in the development of the eleven & a half acre property as a multi-use area with access to the waters of Green Bay. His tenure as Door County Parks Director has been marked by several projects that created or enhanced park areas in the county.
