Winter Storm Blows Through Area

The cleanup of snow in Door County, following Sunday’s storm has gone smoothly, according Door County Highway Commissioner John Kolodziej. Kolodziej says crews were out early attending to county roads, based on department criteria. He noted that high winds & blowing & drifting could make travel difficult at times during the hours ahead.

A large truck being used for snowplowing in the Town of Jacksonport slid into a ditch & rolled onto its side at about 7:10AM Monday. Eric Peil said the truck, which overturned off Division Road, near Willow Road, did not appear to have sustained significant damage.

The US Coast Guard was called out Sunday to rescue a dog that fell into the icy waters of Green Bay off Barrick Road, in the Town of Nasewaupee. The Sturgeon Bay contingent responded in minutes & plucked the animal out of the water quickly. A veterinarian checked the dog out & it was returned to a very grateful owner. The coast guard praised the woman for not attempting to venture onto the ice to rescue her dog which had gotten into trouble while chasing a goose.
