Perhaps you’ve noticed a window replacement project going on this week at the bridge house for the Maple/Oregon Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay. The state department of transportation authorized the project in an effort to provide better visibility for people working there. Apparently, unhappiness about the windows has been the subject of periodic discussions since the bridge opened in 2008. There was some indication that they may have been improperly installed. It was noted that the window replacement project is not the outgrowth of the incident on the Michigan Street Bridge in June in which the front of a recreational vehicle was crushed by the bridge’s counterweight. The DOT is continuing with its policy of operating both bridges with one bridge-tender located at the Maple/Oregon Street Bridge.
