Water Rescue Near Fish Creek Sunday

There was an emergency call for a water rescue Sunday afternoon near Fish Creek. At about 1:15PM, a 22-foot pleasure boat with two occupants was offshore from Weborg Point when it lost power. Just then, the wind picked up considerably. Gibraltar Fire Chief Andy Bertges explains what happened…

Boats responded to the incident from the Gibraltar and Ephraim Fire Departments, but it was the Peninsula Park staff that assisted walking the couple to shore. The wind and waves were too strong to retrieve the boat at that time so it was secured and left to be retrieved Monday morning. Also responding to the scene were the US Coast Guard, DNR Wardens, and the Door County Sheriff’s Office. Fire Chief Bertges says it was unfortunate timing when the wind started to pick up…

There were no injuries reported in the incident nor the response. All units were able to clear the scene by 3PM.
