Washington Island Closures From Covid-19 Spike

December has seen a spike in positive cases of COVID-19 on Washington Island. For the last few weeks, the positive test results on the island have continued at a 50% positive rate. There have been two COVID-related deaths associated with the island, one being a year-round resident and one was a seasonal islander. In response to this recent spike in positive island cases the Town Office, Police Station, and Rec Center were all closed last week. It has been announced these closures will now continue through this week as well. The Washington Island Community Van is also temporarily not running to protect the safety of the drivers and riders. The Washington Island School has switched to virtual learning only through January 18th, and they will revisit this decision on the 15th. The Island Exchange landfill and recycling will remain open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays with strict coronavirus mitigation guidelines for everyone’s safety.
