An investigation into the allegation that more than $41,000 in funds were missing at the Door County Visitor Bureau has concluded that a problem with computer software created a discrepancy, but there never was any money missing. The Visitor Bureau had contended that corrupted data in its Quickbooks program left the funding unaccounted for when an audit was conducted in 2010. However, an in house audit & an audit by an outside firm was able to track all of the funds that were unable to find a home in the budget due to the software problem. The investigation by the Door County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that assessment. Since the software failure occurred, the Visitor Bureau has instituted several new programs & backup systems to insure that a similar glitch in the system never happens again.
