For the second time in recent years, a vehicle has crashed into the McDonald’s restaurant off Egg Harbor Rd. in Sturgeon Bay. This time, a Ford Econoline van jumped the curb near the entrance to the right of the main entrance and caved in a wall, shattering the window shortly after 5pm Friday. The driver, a 69 year-old Algoma man, indicated that he may have blacked out prior to the accident. He refused medical transport. Initial indications are that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
McDonald’s owner Jeff Norland was on scene to assess the damage. A couple of years ago, he was called in after a woman hit the gas instead of the brake and her car crashed into the main entrance, partially entering the restaurant. In that case, the force of impact literally knocked down a portion of the wall and door frame.
