The Sturgeon Bay Public Works Department has issued a statement on what is unacceptable for city garbage collection. It is a reminder to city residents of things that may not be placed with the weekly collection.
Rocks, stones, bricks & concrete can cause damage to the inside lining of the truck which can lead to costly repairs. Brush & garden waste should be taken to the city compost site. These items are also not allowed in most landfills.
Hazardous items & electronic waste, things like television sets, computer monitors, printers, laptops, fax machines, copiers, microwaves…These items require special disposal to remove hazardous components or elements. These items can be collected with the city’s large item collection service which takes place the second Friday of each month, April through October. For more information on this service & the fees involved, contact the Sturgeon Bay Department of Municipal Services at (920)-746-2912, or stop at the office at 835 North 14th Avenue.
The city has noted an increase in items that should not be in the collection recently & the truck drivers may have to leave these items at the curb for proper disposal.
