Tourism Tax Revenues up in 2013

Collections of tourism tax revenues in Door County brought in $3.6 million in 2013, a 4.1% increase over 2012. According to information released last week by the Door County Tourism Zone Commission, $2,405,000 was directed to the Door County Visitor Bureau for promotions & marketing of the entire county. Despite the large amount of room tax in the pipeline, less than $1,000 failed to be paid in & the collection process has been set in motion in that regard. In 2013, 1,203,063 rooms were available for overnight stays & visitors filled 486,977 of the rooms, resulting in an occupancy rate of 40.48%. The average nightly stay in Door County cost $137. The numbers also indicate that 953 properties held permits for transient rental last year. The Door County Tourism Zone Commission is reminding property owners who are renting or thinking of renting that they need to obtain a permit & must collect & pay the associated room tax.
