The Ridges Sanctuary not only wants to do what it takes to get the former Sandpiper Restaurant property in Baileys Harbor ready for the construction of an interpretive center, the organization wants to do so in a way that will recycle the existing buildings on the parcel. The recycling project is expected to be a primary focus over the next couple of months or so. Several contractors are reportedly interested in taking apart the buildings to get at materials that can be used in other existing construction projects & a number of the recycled items may also find their way to Habitat for Humanity’s Restore in Sturgeon Bay. The goal is to build awareness that there are options for recycling building materials rather than taking them to a landfill. By the way, a handcrafted sign identifying the property off of Highway 57 & Ridges Road as the future trailhead & interpretive center for the Ridges Sanctuary will greet passersby, thanks to volunteer Jim Tyndall.
