Property taxes for most municipalities in Door County are in the mail or have already arrived. Door County Treasurer Jay Zahn reminds taxpayers that 15 of the 19 municipalities in the county all pay property taxes at his office located on the main level of the government center in downtown Sturgeon Bay. The treasurer’s office is open weekdays from 8AM to 4:30PM. Zahn says most taxpayers should be pleased this year. Unless a municipality had a major reassessment, property tax bills decreased or only went up slightly this year. However, a late reassessment & board of review means that tax payers in the Town of Liberty Grove will see their tax bills later than normal. It is anticipated that those bills will be printed on the 20th of December. Those whose tax bills are paid through the county treasurer’s office have several options they can use. They can pay at the treasurer’s office, make a payment at Bank Mutual’s Egg Harbor Road location in Sturgeon Bay, pay at Northshore Bank locations in Sturgeon Bay or Sister Bay, use a credit or debit card or e-check. For such payments, go to http://www.co.door.wi.gov/localgov_departments_details.asp?deptid=55&locid=137 & follow the instructions to pay online. An additional charge of $25 per thousand will be assessed for credit or debit card payments & a $2.50 charge for an e-check payment.
