Sturgeon Bay’s Winter Fleet

Bay Shipbuilding is expected to be a very busy place during the next few months as fourteen vessels are scheduled to make up the annual winter fleet in Sturgeon Bay during the 2011/2012 season. Two other vessels are expected to be berthed in Milwaukee as part of the program coordinated by Bay Ship. While arrival dates are tentative at this time, the first vessel expected to be berthed here is the 1,000 foot Stewart J. Cort. The Mystic Blue, American Mariner & Spartan are set to arrive on January 4th, 5th & 6th, & the 770 foot Saint Clair will follow on the 9th of January. The schedule calls for two 1,000 footers, the James R. Barker & the Paul R. Tregurtha to arrive January 10th. Vessels with these familiar names, Arthur Anderson, Kaye E. Barker, Lee E. Tregurtha, Cason J. Callaway, Phillip R. Clarke & Wilfred Sykes have tentative arrival dates between the middle part of January & the 30th of the month. The last vessel listed on the schedule, the 728 foot Joseph L. Block, is not expected in Sturgeon Bay until the first week in February. By the way, the two ships that will remain in Milwaukee over the winter, the Indiana Harbor & Burns Harbor, have visited Sturgeon Bay before. Both are 1,000 footers.
