The Sturgeon Bay Police Department has recently announced that there was a homicide on Florida Street Tuesday morning. Shortly after 12:30AM, officers arrived to the 1800 block of Florida Street and noticed a woman in a front yard who said to the officers twice, “I stabbed her.” She said the injured woman was in the hallway to their upstairs apartment. The suspect, 52 year-old Susan Soukup, was taken into custody without incident. A 2nd officer found the female victim lying on her stomach in the hallway with multiple stab wounds. He began life-saving attempts until EMS arrived. She was brought to the Door County Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 2:21AM. The 32 year-old victim and Soukup were roommates.
The Wisconsin State Crime Lab has processed the crime scene. Susan Soupkup appeared in court Tuesday afternoon facing a charge of 1st degree intentional homicide. The court found probable cause for the state to take jurisdiction and a cash bond was set at one million dollars. Soukup now has an initial appearance scheduled for August 31st at 10AM.
