Sturgeon Bay Street Work

It looks as though one street project in Sturgeon Bay will be wrapped up this week, but another should linger into the first full week in September. City Engineer Tony Depies has provided updates on the 8th Avenue/Egg Harbor Road project & the Michigan Street project.

Michigan Street
Road grading & widening will begin Monday & that will close the street to through traffic. Access to the YMCA & the Lakeside Surgical Clinic will again be provided off of Highway 42/57. Curb & gutter will be installed late this week or early next week. Paving should be completed on September 9th & the road reopened to traffic.

8th Avenue & Egg Harbor Road
Paving is expected Monday or Tuesday, signs & landscaping will be attended to on Tuesday & Wednesday after which 8th Avenue will be open to traffic. Special stop signs will be used to help traffic recognize the new stop sign locations:

  • Traffic will stop at North 8th Avenue on Egg Harbor Road.
  • Traffic will stop at Egg Harbor Road on North 8th & on Georgia Street.
  • Traffic on Egg Harbor Road will not stop at Georgia Street. Temporary stop signs are in at this location because all of North 8th Avenue is detoured to this intersection until North 8th reopens to traffic this week.

All of the stores in the Corner Depot will remain open through the remainder of the construction.
