The statistics for police activity in Sturgeon Bay for the first six months of the year show increases in some categories, but that does not mean that criminal activity is on the rise. Sturgeon Bay Police Captain Dan Brinkman says the numbers actually reflect a more aggressive approach by officers in the city. Brinkman notes that traffic citations are up from 614 in 2010 to 889 this year, but compares that to criminal traffic citations that have gone down to 45 this year compared to 61 at this time in 2010.
