Sturgeon Bay Investigating Every Other Week Recycling

There are many people in Sturgeon Bay who opt to put out their recycling every other week. A committee of the city council is trying to determine if every-other-week recycling would be beneficial city-wide. Last week, the community protection & services committee heard from Municipal Services Superintendent Bob Bordeau about a six-week recycling survey. Bordeau reported that initial information indicated that the every-other-week pickup schedule would extend the life of equipment & maintenance of trucks, cut back on fuel, & allow staff to invest time on other services with efficiency. It was noted that that the department tracked 4,280 stops per week & found that 35% of the containers were less than half full of recycling material. The municipal services department was told to continue its survey & report back with results at the committee’s next meeting.
