Sturgeon Bay Historical Society Foundation Receives Excellence Award

The Sturgeon Bay Historical Society Foundation recently received the state-wide Historic Preservation Excellence Award, from the Wisconsin Association of Historic Preservation Commissions, recognizing the group’s ongoing work preserving both the Door County Granary and the Potawatomi State Park observation tower. The commission’s board President, Jason Flatt congratulated the Sturgeon Bay Historical Society Foundation for recognizing the importance of, and preserving of structures that embody Sturgeon Bay’s character and history. He says this work creates a sense of place, an appreciation for the community’s roots, and is ultimately beneficial to the local economy.
The latest update from the Sturgeon Bay Historical Society Foundation says the Potawatomi Park Tower is receiving its final repairs this summer and is expected to be re-open by the spring of 2025. As for the Door County Granary, that restoration work continues. They are planning on hosting a soft opening for the granary this September, and a grand opening in the spring of 2025.
