Sturgeon Bay Garbage Trucks

As part of proposed changes to the city of Sturgeon Bay’s garbage & recycling program, two new garbage trucks need to be purchased. The city’s finance/purchasing & building committee is recommending that the automated refuse trucks be purchased from R-Now of West Allis at a cost of $403,544. Funds to cover the expenditure are included in the 2012 budget. The automated vehicles will be used to pick up new refuse & recycling containers that will replace the current system. About $425,000 will be invested in the 96 gallon Toter garbage & recycling containers that will be distributed to residents. The new system is expected to save significant dollars because the vehicle’s mechanical arm will do the heavy lifting, saving time & possible injury by employees. The matter of the new vehicles will be taken up by the Sturgeon Bay city council at its meeting Tuesday evening.
