A neighborhood on the West side of Sturgeon Bay was cordoned off Monday afternoon as local law enforcement engaged in a dangerous “standoff” situation. The Sturgeon Bay Police Department called in the County’s “SWAT” team and used fire department units to block off streets shortly after 5PM following an incident involving a man in a home near North Duluth avenue. Initially the call was for a “welfare” check. Officers could see the man inside & noticed he was armed. Shots were fired when officers approached the man’s home, but no one was injured. The Door County SWAT unit was joined by similar units from Brown & Kewaunee Counties. The SWAT team was able to take the man safely into custody around 11PM.
