Stabbing Suspect Remains in Door County Jail

A 48-year old Sturgeon Bay man, facing several charges related to a stabbing in the city last week, remains in the Door County jail on $2,000 cash bond. James Sears waived the time limit for a preliminary hearing during an initial appearance in Door County Circuit Court Monday. Sears is charged with disorderly conduct, first degree reckless endangerment, & causing injury by negligent use of a dangerous weapon. A 59-year old Sturgeon Bay man was stabbed in the chest during an altercation in the rooming area above a downtown Sturgeon Bay bar. The two men allegedly argued over the level of noise coming out of one room. During the argument, Sears brandished a hunting knife & the victim sustained a non life-threatening injury when the disagreement escalated. The injured man was treated at Ministry Door County Medical Center. A preliminary hearing for Sears is expected to be scheduled in the near future.
