Two radar speed boards will soon be set up in school zones in Sturgeon Bay as a result of action taken by the Sturgeon Bay City Council Tuesday evening. Grant funding received through the Safe Routes to School program is available to purchase & install two permanently mounted units that provide a digital read-out of a vehicle’s speed. The plan is to put one of the screens on a utility pole on Michigan Street at the eastern approach to the school zone near south 15th Avenue. The other is planned for Maple Street at the eastern approach to the Saint John Bosco school zone between Fulton & Geneva Avenue. A new utility pole is needed at that location. The city investment, over & above the grant funding, is about $230 the first year, plus $264 annually to cover the cost of the electrical service.
