Southern Door School Greenhouse Project Moves Forward

The Southern Door School District’s greenhouse project had been shelved in previous months as the school moved through the district’s 2022 referendum projects, but at Monday night’s Southern Door school board meeting it was announced that they will now be able to move forward with the greenhouse project with the use of contingency funds. Based on their successful and timely completion of phase 1 of the referendum projects last summer along with their current progress in phase 2 with the multipurpose athletic facility, there are enough contingency funds now to construct the shell of the greenhouse, an original part of the referendum plan.
The district now awaits a response regarding grant funding of up to $50,000 in the form of a Farm to School Turnkey Grant from the US Department of Agriculture. That response is expected sometime this May or June.
A recent press release from the Southern Door School District states that the recent short-term shelving of the greenhouse project did not impact the overall cost or the timeline of the project, and it is now on schedule to be completed by late summer.
