Southern Door Receives Phy-Ed Grant

The Southern Door School District has been awarded a grant of $461,590 for the first year of a program intended to transform the district’s physical education program & wellness offerings for students. The federal Carol M. White physical education grant comes from the US Department of Education. Opportunities within the phy-ed program will include fitness education & assessment, nutrition education, & overall wellness activities to promote a lifelong, healthy lifestyle. Southern Door Superintendent Patti Vickman says she’s excited about the opportunities provided by the grant to strengthen the district’s commitment to the development of physical activity & healthy lifestyles for students, families, staff & the community. Vickman praised the work of the individuals & committee members who conducted the needs assessment & developed the goals for the grant.
