The City of Sturgeon Bay is being asked to provide a loan of $42,350 so that the Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative can move forward with plans to build a ten thousand square foot, poured concrete skatepark on the West side of the city. During a recent meeting, the city’s finance/purchasing & building committee was told that the initiative had reached its $405,000 goal, but the donations totaling $42,000 plus comes in the form of pledges that will be paid to the Door County Community Foundation through 2017. The organization is hoping to bridge its financial gap with the city loan & promises to pay off the debt as pledged funds come in. A total of 13 donors are involved. Once completed, the park will be open to skateboarders & BMX bikers alike. Plans calls for a groundbreaking in the spring & a completed skatepark by the summer. The Sturgeon Bay City Council will take up the matter at its meeting Tuesday evening.
