Skatepark Could Break Ground Soon

Bids have been received in connection with the construction of the Sturgeon Bay skatepark on city property near the west side ball field. Plans for the skatepark call for a 10,000 square foot concrete facility with special concrete finishes, sloped sides, transition & ramps. The low bid received on Monday from Dreamland Skateparks of Lincoln, Oregon came in at $317,500, well within the amount raised or pledged to the Skatepark Initiative, the local group that has has conducted a fundraising campaign to build the facility. The favorable bid may allow additional work to be completed this year at the site. The City of Sturgeon Bay has committed to providing $42,350 in short term funding to bridge the gap between funds already secured & outstanding pledges to the local group. The agreement calls for a four year payback plan. The low bid is being recommended for city council approval. Groundbreaking for the skatepark project in the spring is expected to lead to a completion date this summer.
