The Door County Sheriff’s Department reports that several members of the local community have reported a possible scam where they receive a phone call from a person claiming to be contracted through Microsoft. The caller then speaks your name & tries to convince you that there are problems with your computer. From there the caller seeks to gain remote access to your computer, & says in order to fix it he will need your credit card information because the fix will cost several hundred dollars. Besides getting your money the caller will then likely have access to whatever information is on the computer. Door County Sheriff Terry Vogel says if you receive one of these calls, the best thing to do is to tell the caller you are not interested & then just hang up. The Sheriff reminds everyone that you should never give out personal information, especially credit card or banking information unless you know for sure who you are talking to.
