Section of County WD to Remain Closed Until May 23rd

A stretch of Door County Highway WD will remain closed a little longer. Whitefish Dunes State Park & the Door County Highway Department have been working on a cooperative effort to remove diseased beech trees that are close to the county highway & within the state park in the Town of Sevastopol. As part of the ongoing effort, a segment of WD as been closed to traffic. The closure is needed due to logging going on in the state park & safety concerns related to the felling of trees, logging equipment in use on the county highway & the stockpiling of logs along the right of way. The road closure impacts County WD from Dunes Park Road to the main entrance of the nature center & parking lots. We’re told the contractor needs more time to finish the logging operation, so the road closure has been extended to Wednesday, May 23rd. Access to the nature center at the state park will be open at all times by using North Cave Point Drive. A detour has been set up using Bechtal Road, Highway 57 & North Cave Point Drive. All motorists are urged to use caution in the work area due to logging trucks & heavy equipment using WD for access. If you have any questions about the road closure contact Door County Highway Commissioner John Kolodziej at (920)746-2500.
