The Sturgeon Bay Police Department is reporting that 152 traffic citations were issued during it’s participation in the statewide “Click it or Ticket” program, which ran from October 1st of 2010 through September 30th of this year. The $15,000 grant had two traffic safety components, $10,000 to cover wages & benefits for overtime enforcement & $5,000 to cover a traffic related equipment purchase. For it’s equipment purchase, the department bought a Panasonic Arbitrator 360 mobile digital video system. The in squad system allows the department to record traffic stops, providing a valuable piece of evidence in court cases, especially drunk driving arrests. The purchase now brings the total number of patrol cars equipped with the video system to five, leaving only one vehicle to be equipped. The “Click it or Ticket” grant funding provided for 164 hours of extra enforcement leading to 282 traffic stops during the period. Of the 152 citations issued, 65 were for seatbelt violations, 42 for miscellaneous violations, 26 for speeding & 10 for driving with a revoked license. A total of 159 traffic warnings were also issued during the statewide mobilization.
