Sturgeon Bay firefighters have raised close to $6,500 as part of their “Fill the Boot” campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. On two occasions, members of union local 2682 have spent the part of a day in downtown Sturgeon Bay, accepting donations for MDA from passing motorists & pedestrians. Union president Matt Austad is pleased with the $6,488 collected so far, but he’s hoping the final collection day will meet or beat the amount raised in 2012. The last “Fill the Boot” collection day is set for Saturday, August 17th. Firefighters will again be at the intersection of 3rd Avenue & Louisiana Street. All of the funds donated to MDA locally will stay in Door County.
