RV and Barn Lost in Gardner Fire Friday Morning

There was a fire call Friday morning in the town of Gardner, adjacent to Claflin Park at Little Sturgeon Bay. At 6:05 am, the BUG Fire Department was dispatched for a report of an RV in front of a barn, and both were fully englulfed in flames. BUG Fire Chief Curt Vandertie says his units first arrived on the scene and confirmed the RV And barn were fully involved with flames. Also responding to the fire were the departments from Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Luxemburg, and Casco, in addition to Door County Emergency Services, the Door County Sheriff’s Office, and Wisconsin Public Service. Apparently, the property owner was asleep in the house, about 30 to 40 feet away from the fire, when he awoke and saw the blaze outside and called 9-1-1. Fire Chief Vandertie reports they set up 2 fill-sites for water, one at Carmody Park and one at Wave Point Marina. They used a combination of water and foam to extinguish the fire. Both the RV and barn were destroyed, as well as the contents of the barn which included 2 boats. About 30 feet away, the garage did sustain some heat damage to the siding, and a nearby ATV also sustained heat damage. The operation was complete and all units cleared the scene within 1 hour and 40 minutes. The investigation into the fire is currently ongoing, and they have yet to determine the cause or origin of the fire.
