For 33 years, the Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay has offered its annual “Shipyard Tour” on the grounds of Bay Shipbuilding, and the funds generated from those tours would support their various community projects and youth scholarships in Door County. It was announced Thursday that due to the growth and changing business model of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, they are no longer able to provide access for the shipyard tours.
The Rotary Club is still dedicated to serving the community, and they are now planning a unique harbor tour called the “Sturgeon Bay Working Waterfront Tours, Both Past and Present.” These tours will educate the public on our community’s ties to the Great Lakes this summer, from June 21st through the 23rd. They will provide a 90-minute tour highlighting 7 unique waterfront points of interest and their history.
Sponsored by Shoreline Boat Tours and the Door County Maritime Museum, the tours will include 25-person boats providing up-close views of the harbor’s waterfront. They will also include access to the Maritime Museum and the Kress Lighthouse Tower.
Tour tickets will be available starting April 1st through the website doorcountytickets.com.
